Detroit Lions’ Derrick Barnes Fantasy: LB NFL Defensive Data, Stats & Speculations 2022

Player Outlook

Derrick Barnes was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round last year. The former Purdue linebacker signed a four-year contract worth $4.26 million with a signing bonus of $780,000. This will be Barnes’ second season with the Lions and a lot more will be expected from the linebacker as he is no longer a rookie in the league.

Barnes is expected to compete for a starting linebacker role alongside Alex Anzalone, Chris Board will also be joining the roster after signing for the Bengals from Baltimore this off season. Most fans believe that Barnes will be more of a rotational player this year and will not get a huge chunk of playing time.

Derrick Barnes’ fantasy data

Last season, Barnes had a pretty solid debut as a rookie. He finished the season with 43 solo tackles, 23 assisted tackles and 2 sacks. He also managed to average 7.9 fantasy points per game which is impressive to say the very least. The linebacker position is the most unsettled position in the Lions’ team this year as it has had a complete turnover of players over the past two seasons.

There is a lot of scrutiny around Malcolm Rodriguez and Derrick Barnes as the team has invested heavily in them and will be looking to get a return on investment this season. This offseason, the Lions moved on from DeLeone as their linebackers coach and promoted Kelvin Sheppard to the job. He shared his thoughts on Barnes saying, “The sky’s the limit for him, but he knows as well, (that) he hasn’t had a lot of off-ball experience. That player there, there’s not many in the league with that statue, with his power, with the way he can run and hit and can do what he can do, once he knows exactly what to do.”
